PERFORMING ENSEMBLES

ADVANCED ORCHESTRA

The Advanced Orchestra is comprised of violinists, violists, cellists and bassists with 1-4 years of experience. This is an advanced​ level ensemble which meets 2nd period each day for 55 minutes. Students must be accepted to this orchestra via teacher recommendation and audition. It is a full-year elective, and students are required to maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain in the ensemble. Finally, in accordance with national standards, students are expected to practice a minimum of 30 minutes daily.

The Advanced Orchestra performs various concerts throughout the year, including a fall, winter, spring and Prism Concert. They will also perform at the Northwest Stockton Cluster Concert, Music in the Park and NCBA festivals. Students in the Advanced Orchestra are expected to record an audition for the SJCOE Honor Orchestra and may also audition for the CODA All-State Orchestra. 

INTERMEDIATE ORCHESTRA

The Intermediate Orchestra is comprised of violinists, violists, cellists and bassists with 0-2 years of experience. This is a beginning and intermediate level ensemble which meets 1st period each day for 55 minutes. The only prerequisite for the class is a desire to learn a string instrument. It is a full-year elective, and students are required to maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain in the ensemble. Finally, in accordance with national standards, students are expected to practice a minimum of 30 minutes daily.

     The Intermediate Orchestra performs various concerts throughout the year, including a fall, winter, spring and Prism Concert. They will also perform at the Northwest Stockton Cluster Concert and Music in the Parks Festival. Students in the Intermediate Orchestra may audition for the SJCOE County Honor Orchestra with teacher recommendation.

CONCERT CHOIR

​The CMMS Concert Choir is accepting any student who wishes to learn the art of vocal performance through choir. Students will learn healthy vocal habits, music literacy skills, singing/ sight-singing in solfege and vocal production techniques in a variety of styles. The class meets 3rd period each day for 55 minutes. This is a full-year elective, and students are expected to practice.

The choir will perform numerous times throughout the school year. Performances include formal concerts, school events, national anthem gigs and Music in the Parks Festival. Students will also be eligible to audition for the SJCOE Honor Choir with teacher recommendation.

 

CONCERT BAND


The Concert Band is comprised of wind and percussion instrumentalists with 0-2 years of experience. This is a beginning and intermediate level ensemble which meets 5th period each day for 55 minutes. The only prerequisite for the class is a desire to learn a band instrument. It is a full-year elective, and students are required to maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain in the ensemble. Finally, in accordance with national standards, students are expected to practice a minimum of 30 minutes daily.

They will also perform at the Northwest Stockton Cluster Concert and Music in the Parks Festival. WIND ENSEMBLE

Students must be accepted to this ensemble via teacher recommendation and audition. It is a full-year elective, and students are required to maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain in the ensemble. Finally, in accordance with national standards, students are expected to practice a minimum of 30 minutes daily.

The Wind Ensemble performs various concerts throughout the year, including a fall, winter, spring and Prism Concert. They will also perform at the Northwest Stockton Cluster Concert, our Annual Benefit Concert, Music in the Parks Festival and NCBA festival. Students in the Wind Ensemble are expected to record an audition for the SJCOE Honor Band and may also audition for the NCBA Nor-Cal Honor Band.

CMMS JAZZ BAND

   The CMMS Jazz Band is an extracurricular ensemble which rehearses twice a week before school from 7:30-8:30 AM. The ensemble is open to all students who wish to learn elements of improvisation and a variety of jazz styles. This is an introductory ensemble, meaning that our primary focus is on building a foundation for jazz style which will serve students in the future. This is an excellent way to expand your horizons, try something new and explore a style of music you may find yourself enjoying. Students are expected to be at all rehearsals, and will be dismissed from the ensemble should they miss more than two unexcused.
     
​     The Jazz Band will perform at the Winter Concert as well as the Prism Concert. They may also compete in the Music in the Parks festival.

​Ensemble Expectations

The following expectations apply to all curricular ensembles:
A. Students are expected to practice a minimum o
f 30 minutes per day in order to develop the skills necessary for success in the music program.
B. Students are expected to respect their learning environment and ensemble through daily positive contributions and preparation.
C. Students are expected to perform in all performances throughout the school year to the best of their abilities.
D. Students are expected to respect deadlines, due dates and their peers'/ director's time by communicating appropriately with ensemble members, family members and/or the director in a timely fashion.
E. Students are expected to maintain the character and values of our program by treating ensemble members and the director with kindness, respect and encouragement.
